An Indian business can start the process to sell on Amazon Saudi Arabia from India, but three things decide whether it works. Amazon's Saudi seller page lists a commercial registration (CR) as mandatory, Amazon does not act as importer of record for Saudi FBA stock, and your products must meet Saudi conformity rules. Check each one before you ship a single carton.
A note on sources. This guide relies on Amazon's own seller pages for account rules. We could not verify current pages from ZATCA, SASO or SFDA while writing it. So for customs, duty, VAT and product approvals, this post tells you what to ask and where to check. It does not state rates or rules as fact.
Can an Indian company register an Amazon.sa seller account?
Possibly, but Amazon's own wording points to a Saudi CR. Amazon's Saudi seller page says a commercial registration is a mandatory prerequisite for registering and selling on Amazon in Saudi Arabia. It sits beside a list of general requirements: business details, a chargeable credit card, a phone number and a tax ID.
Other sources point the other way. A Seller Central forum reply says the business licence number field can take a CR, a freelance practitioner certificate or a non-Saudi business licence. That post is well over a year old. An agency blog says India is on the allowed-country list. We could not find that list on an Amazon page, so treat it as unverified.
The safe reading is that the requirement for non-Saudi sellers varies. Start registration on sellercentral.amazon.sa, see which fields and documents it asks for, and contact Seller Support if your Indian licence is not accepted.
| Route | What it means | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Indian business licence | You register as a foreign seller | Does the form accept it? |
| Saudi CR in your own name | You set up a Saudi entity | Setup cost, local rules, VAT |
| Legal representative | Amazon lists a trade licence plus a power of attorney | Who signs, and which documents Amazon needs |
What documents does Amazon.sa ask for?
Amazon asks for business and identity documents, a bank statement and payment details. The Amazon Saudi registration guideline lists ID and trade licence documents by owner type. For a legal representative, it lists a trade licence plus a power of attorney in one PDF.
Prepare this pack:
- Trade or business licence (CR or equivalent, see above).
- Government national ID or passport for the owner or representative.
- A recent bank statement.
- A chargeable credit card and a working phone number.
- A tax ID. The forum reply also asks for a ZATCA VAT number if you must be VAT-registered in Saudi Arabia.
Amazon's May 2022 guide says documents should be legible and issued within the past 180 days. That guide is written for EU and UK sellers and is dated. It mentions a free Professional account "for a limited time". Do not assume that offer exists today. Check the current plan fee in Seller Central.
Already selling on another Amazon store?
The same guide says you can add the Saudi store through Linked Accounts on your Sell Globally page. Confirm in Seller Central that your existing account type qualifies. One agency says an account merge cannot be undone and only the owner can do it. That is unverified, so read each prompt carefully.
How do you register, step by step?
Registration follows the order in Amazon's guide. Here is the sequence, adjusted for an Indian seller:
- Decide your legal setup. Confirm what Amazon accepts for a non-Saudi business (see the table above).
- Register on sellercentral.amazon.sa, or add Saudi Arabia through Linked Accounts if you already sell elsewhere.
- Upload ID and a bank statement. Use clear files issued within 180 days.
- Wait for identity verification. Amazon's registration guide says it usually takes 2 business days.
- Finish account setup, including payment and return details.
- Check restricted categories before you build listings. Some categories need approval.
- Upload listings only for products you have cleared for Saudi conformity and import.
Who is the importer when you ship from India?
You need a Saudi-licensed importer. Two secondary sources, EcomSellerTool and ZonHack, say Amazon does not act as importer of record for Saudi FBA stock and does not clear customs on your behalf. They also say inbound shipments must be DDP (delivery duty paid), meaning the seller pays duties and taxes before delivery.
For self-fulfilled orders, Amazon's May 2022 guide is direct. You are responsible for the customer experience from shipping to returns. Use international carriers, choose DDP incoterms and provide a valid tracking number.
An agency says Saudi customs requires importers to be licensed and identified by a Saudi number such as a CR. It adds that an Indian company in practice uses a licensed Saudi importer or sets up its own Saudi company. We have not verified this against ZATCA, which runs Saudi customs. Ask your Saudi broker which importer number appears on the declaration, and confirm it on the ZATCA site.
| Model | Who pays duty | Main risk |
|---|---|---|
| Self-fulfil from India, DDP | You, before delivery | Carrier and customs handling at your cost |
| FBA with a Saudi importer | Importer and you, per your contract | Stock held up at port |
| Amazon Global Store | The buyer, as importer of record | Programme rules and eligibility are Amazon's |
The Global Store row comes from Amazon.sa's Global Store page, which says the buyer is the importer of record and pays duties, taxes and fees on arrival. That is a separate Amazon programme. Check its eligibility in Seller Central.
What product conformity checks apply in Saudi Arabia?
Rules vary by product, so check each one before you ship. Saudi conformity is handled by authorities such as SASO (through its SABER platform) for many consumer goods. SFDA covers regulated categories such as food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices. We have not verified current requirements for specific products here. Use the official sites for the final answer.
Run this check for every SKU:
- HS code. Confirm it with your Saudi broker.
- Amazon category. Is it restricted or gated?
- Conformity. Does it need a SASO or SFDA certificate or registration?
- Labelling. Ask whether language, origin or expiry-date marking rules apply.
- Who holds the paperwork. Importer, manufacturer or you.
Do not list a product first and sort out conformity later. Customs may stop goods that lack the right paperwork, and that is when storage charges start.
What costs should you plan for?
Plan for more than the Amazon fees. The Amazon fee page was not checked for this post. One agency quotes a referral fee of 5% to 15% in most categories and FBA fees from SAR 5.5 a unit. Treat both as unverified. Check the current fee schedule in Seller Central for your category.
A forwarder guide lists these extra costs:
- Demurrage (port storage).
- Inspection charges.
- Documentation corrections.
- Duty reassessments.
The same page suggests a 10% to 15% pricing buffer. That is one site's opinion, not a rule. Build your own buffer from real quotes. Also budget for a Saudi return address if you plan FBA, because an agency says Amazon cannot send FBA stock back to India. We could not confirm this on an Amazon page.
Say you sell phone accessories from Mumbai. Your cost sheet should have the product cost, freight, duty, broker fee, conformity certificate, Amazon referral fee, FBA fee and a buffer. If the margin vanishes once you add demurrage, change the plan before you ship.
Where does software fit in?
Software does not import or clear goods for you. It keeps your listings, stock and orders consistent once the legal setup is done. Quickship is a technology company only. It does not ship, store or clear goods and is not a 3PL. If you also plan to sell in the UAE, the Marketplace Activation module covers Amazon.ae and noon seller accounts for brands abroad. The Inventory module syncs multi-warehouse stock with Amazon, noon and Shopify. Neither replaces the Saudi checks above.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Saudi company to sell on Amazon.sa as an Indian business?
Amazon's Saudi seller page says a commercial registration (CR) is mandatory to register and sell. A seller-forum reply says the business licence field can also accept a freelance practitioner certificate or a non-Saudi business licence. Because the two statements differ, check what the registration form accepts for your company before you plan anything else.
Can I add Saudi Arabia to a seller account I already have?
Amazon's guide says that if you have a Professional account in another region, you can add the Saudi store through Linked Accounts on the Sell Globally page. Whether your specific account qualifies is something to confirm inside Seller Central. One agency says the merge cannot be undone, so read the prompts before you confirm.
How long does Amazon take to verify a Saudi seller account?
Amazon's Saudi registration guide says Seller Identity Verification usually takes 2 business days. Documents should be legible and issued within the past 180 days, according to Amazon's May 2022 guide. Unclear scans or expired papers are the usual reason to expect delays.
Will Amazon clear my goods through Saudi customs?
No. Secondary sources state that Amazon Saudi Arabia does not act as importer of record and does not clear customs for you. Amazon's own guide tells self-fulfilling sellers to use international carriers and DDP terms. Agree with a licensed Saudi importer or broker who pays duties before the goods leave India.
Can I send returns back to India?
One agency says Amazon cannot send FBA stock back to India, so you would need a Saudi return address. We could not confirm this on an Amazon page. Ask Seller Central support, and decide in advance what happens to returned or unsellable units.
