To offer same day delivery in Dubai, set one clear order cut-off, promise it only in zones your carriers reach reliably, and price it so the fee covers the real cost of a rush drop. Amazon.ae shows the model: shoppers see an "order within" countdown, and the same-day date can disappear if stock or delivery capacity changes. Your store needs the same discipline, just at a smaller scale.
How do you offer same day delivery in Dubai?
Start with the promise, then build the process behind it. A same-day promise is a chain of steps, and it breaks at the weakest one.
- Pick the products. Offer same-day only on items you hold in stock, in the place you pick from. Amazon.ae notes that higher quantities can make an item ineligible because several units may not be available locally. Copy that rule.
- Set one cut-off time. One time, shown at checkout, is easier to keep than several.
- Draw your zones. List the Dubai areas you will serve same-day and the ones you will not.
- Choose carriers. Decide who delivers: your own riders, a courier, or several couriers.
- Set the fee. Decide the flat fee and the free threshold.
- Write the promise. Show the cut-off, zones, fee and what happens if you miss the window.
- Track every order. Measure how many same-day orders arrive on the day. Cut the zone or the cut-off if the number is poor.
How do you set a same-day cut-off time?
Work backwards from the last safe delivery hour. The cut-off is not a guess. It is the delivery deadline minus every step in between.
Here is a hypothetical example. Say a Dubai store picks from a unit in Al Quoz and promises delivery by 9 pm. The numbers are illustrative, not a benchmark.
| Step | Time needed (example) |
|---|---|
| Last safe delivery hour | 9:00 pm |
| Longest drive in your zone, including traffic | 90 minutes |
| Courier pick-up window | 60 minutes |
| Pick, pack and label | 45 minutes |
| Buffer for failed calls and busy periods | 30 minutes |
| Resulting cut-off | about 1:00 pm |
Test the numbers with your own orders for two weeks before you publish them. Then check your store platform. A forum post quoting Shopify's help text says the business-day cut-off for checkout delivery dates is 12 pm in the origin's local time and cannot be edited. That post is old, so check Shopify's current help page. If your cut-off differs from the platform's, show your own message or a separate same-day shipping option instead of relying on the automatic date.
Amazon.ae also says same-day runs seven days a week on most days, with limited availability on some holidays and high-volume shopping days. Decide your own rule for Fridays, Eid and sale days, and publish it.
Which Dubai zones should you promise?
Promise the zones you can serve on time, not the whole emirate. Dubai is long and narrow, and the drive from Jebel Ali to Dubai Silicon Oasis is a different job from Business Bay to Downtown.
A simple three-tier plan works for most stores:
| Tier | Example areas | Promise |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Areas close to your pick point, for example Al Quoz, Business Bay, Downtown, Jumeirah | Same-day, latest cut-off |
| Extended | Marina, JLT, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Deira | Same-day, earlier cut-off |
| Outside | Far outer areas, other emirates | Next-day or standard |
Adjust the tiers to where your stock sits. A seller near Jebel Ali or KEZAD will have a different core zone from one in Deira.
Allow for the delivery-bike lane rules
If your carriers use motorcycles, check the lane rules. Gulf News reports that from 1 November 2025, delivery bikes are barred from the two leftmost lanes on roads with five or more lanes, and from the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. Roads with two lanes or fewer are not restricted. Reported fines are AED 500 for a first offence and AED 700 for a second. Check rta.ae for the current rules and penalties.
The practical point: bike trips on highways may take longer than they did before. Build that into your zone map and your delivery window.
Collect addresses that couriers can find
Late or failed same-day drops often start with a poor address. Ask for the building name, the area, a mobile number and a Makani number or a map pin. Dubai addresses are often described by landmark, so a pin saves a call and a delay.
Which carrier options can you use for same-day?
You have four realistic options. Most Dubai stores end up mixing two of them.
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Your own riders or drivers | Control over timing, small zones | Rider management, vehicle costs, lane rules, idle time off-peak |
| One courier | Simple set-up, one contract | One point of failure, limited capacity on busy days |
| Several couriers | Backup when one is full, different zones | Different portals, different COD reports |
| Marketplace fulfilment (Amazon, noon) | Orders placed on those marketplaces | Only for marketplace orders, and the platform sets the rules |
On marketplaces, read each platform's own wording. noon says FBN stores stock and ships orders "within as little as 24-hours". That is not a same-day promise, so do not describe it as one. Amazon.ae also says seller shipping times are not guaranteed and vary by seller.
If you use more than one courier, the admin grows fast. Quickship's Last Mile Aggregator is software that puts several couriers in one dashboard and helps with COD reconciliation. It does not deliver anything itself. Your couriers still do the driving.
What does same-day delivery cost?
The cost is the courier charge per drop plus the extra costs of rushing. Courier rates vary by carrier, zone, parcel size and volume, so get written quotes for same-day specifically. Do not assume a standard rate applies.
For the main cost drivers, look at:
- Courier charge per drop. Ask for the same-day rate by zone, not the next-day one.
- Failed attempts. A missed same-day drop may mean a second trip, or a return to your unit.
- COD handling. Ask about collection fees and how long remittance takes.
- Packing and labour. Rushed picking can mean overtime or an extra shift.
- Free-delivery promises. Every free same-day order comes out of your margin.
For a shopper-side benchmark, Amazon.ae's rate chart lists same-day at AED 18 for non-Prime customers and AED 5 for Prime customers under AED 100. Amazon.ae lists a 2-hour option too. Treat these as a view of what shoppers see, since the rates may change and Amazon's cost base is not yours. Free Prime same-day requires at least AED 100 of eligible items.
A simple way to set your fee: take your average same-day cost per order from two weeks of trial deliveries. Add failed-delivery losses. Then decide how much you will charge and how much you will absorb through a free threshold.
Keep stock accurate too. Selling a same-day item you no longer have means a broken promise. If you sell on your site and on marketplaces, Quickship Inventory syncs stock across Amazon, noon and Shopify and across warehouses.
What does UAE consumer law expect?
Say clearly what you promise, and keep to it. The Ministry of Economy says the consumer protection law covers goods and services in the UAE, including free zones, and e-commerce where the supplier is registered in the UAE. u.ae adds that it does not cover transactions between UAE customers and businesses registered outside the UAE.
Law-firm summaries say sellers should show full prices, including shipping, and deliver within the agreed time. Check the exact articles on the official pages or with a lawyer before you rely on those summaries. If you send order updates by WhatsApp, message only customers who opted in, as UAE PDPL requires.
What are the common mistakes?
- Promising the whole city. Start with the core zone and expand with data.
- No cut-off at checkout. Customers order at 6 pm and expect delivery tonight.
- Ignoring holidays and sale days. Amazon.ae itself limits same-day on some of these.
- Quoting a courier's headline rate. Same-day rates differ from standard rates.
- No COD plan. Cash collected by couriers needs to be matched to orders.
- Overselling stock. Same-day only works for items you can pick now.
- Skipping a trial. Run 20 to 30 test deliveries before you announce the service.
Checklist before you launch
- Cut-off time calculated and tested.
- Core, extended and outside zones listed.
- Written same-day quotes from at least one courier, ideally two.
- COD and failed-delivery terms agreed.
- Fee and free threshold set.
- Checkout message shows cut-off, zones and fee.
- A plan for Fridays, public holidays and sale days.
- Daily on-time tracking from day one.
Frequently asked questions
Should I make same-day delivery free?
Only if the order value covers it. Many stores charge a flat fee for same-day and offer it free above a basket threshold. Amazon.ae, for example, ties free Prime same-day to a minimum of AED 100 in eligible items, so a threshold is a familiar idea to Dubai shoppers.
Can I run same-day delivery with cash on delivery?
Yes, but plan the cash handling. COD is common in the UAE and Amazon.ae lists it as a checkout option. Your courier collects the cash and remits it later, so you need a routine to match every COD order to the courier's remittance report.
Can I promise same-day delivery to Sharjah or Abu Dhabi?
You can, if your carrier confirms it for those routes and cut-off times. Different emirates mean longer drives and more traffic risk, so many stores start with Dubai only. Test the route with real orders before you advertise it.
What happens if I miss a same-day promise?
Tell the customer early and offer a fix, such as the next morning or a refund of the delivery fee. UAE consumer law expects delivery within the agreed time. Read the Ministry of Economy page and take legal advice on remedies for your case.
Do I need to tell customers when a same-day option is unavailable?
Yes. Hide the option or show a clear message at checkout once the cut-off passes or capacity is full. Amazon.ae removes the delivery date when stock or capacity changes. Your store should do the same instead of promising a date it cannot meet.
