Shopify Shipping UAE: Zones, Rates and Courier Setup

Shopify shipping UAE setup: add the market, build zones, set flat or weight rates, handle COD and connect couriers. A step-by-step guide for UAE stores.

By Quickship Editorial Team · Published 27 October 2026

Shopify shipping UAE setup comes down to three things: an active UAE market, a shipping zone with rates inside it, and a courier connection that gets orders to the customer. Do them in that order and test every step with a real checkout. This guide walks through each one, plus cash on delivery (COD), which most UAE shoppers still expect.

One note first. Shopify is updating its shipping setup, and menu labels differ between stores. Existing rates are migrated automatically, according to Shopify's help centre. If your screen looks slightly different, follow the same logic.

How do you set up Shopify shipping for the UAE?

Add the UAE as a market, activate it, then create a shipping zone with rates. Shopify says that to sell to a country it must be in an active market. You add the market first, activate it, then set rates.

Customers can only order if their destination is in both a shipping zone and an active market, per Shopify's shipping zones page. Miss either one and the customer sees "no shipping available" at checkout.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings > Markets and add the United Arab Emirates. Activate it.
  2. Open Settings > Shipping and delivery.
  3. Choose a shipping profile. Every store has a General profile that applies to all products by default.
  4. Add a zone and select the UAE.
  5. Add rates to the zone (see the next section).
  6. Place a test order to a UAE address and check that the rate appears.
  7. Repeat for any other country you sell to, such as Saudi Arabia, as its own zone.

Which rate types can you use for UAE orders?

Shopify offers flat, order amount, weight, and carrier- or app-calculated rates. Pick the simplest one that covers your costs.

Rate type How it works Good for UAE stores that...
Flat One price for every order in the zone Sell small, similar items and want a simple checkout
Order amount Price changes with the cart value Want free delivery above a set basket value
Weight Price changes with cart weight Sell mixed or heavier items
Carrier- or app-calculated Live price from your courier account or an app Have a courier contract and want checkout to match the invoice

Here is a hypothetical example. Say a Dubai store sells phone accessories and a few bulky speakers. It could set a flat rate for the General profile, a free-shipping rate above a chosen cart value, and a separate profile for the speakers with a weight-based rate. The numbers are yours to set from your courier quotes. Do not copy a competitor's price.

Can you set different rates for each emirate?

Maybe, but check before you promise it. Shopify's examples treat zones as groups of countries or regions. We could not confirm from Shopify's own pages that the standard admin splits the UAE by emirate. Some third-party blogs say it can.

Test it in your own store. Open the UAE zone and look for options to split by region. If you cannot split it, you have three workable choices:

  • Use one UAE-wide rate and price it to cover your average courier cost.
  • Use carrier- or app-calculated rates, so the courier's quote handles distance and weight.
  • Use local delivery for nearby customers (see below).

If your courier charges more for outer areas, a single flat rate can lose money on those orders. Check your last month of courier invoices by destination before you choose.

How do shipping profiles change what customers pay?

Profiles let different products carry different rates. The General profile applies to everything by default. You can create more for bulky items, fragile goods or products that ship from another place.

There is one trap. If a cart contains products from different profiles or locations, Shopify combines the rates into one amount at checkout, per Shopify's guide to shipping profiles. That can push up the customer's total. A shopper who adds one light item and one bulky item may see a higher price than expected.

Location groups within a profile can each have their own zones and rates. This matters if you hold stock in more than one place, for example in Dubai and Sharjah.

Common profile mistakes:

  • Putting every product in General, so heavy items are under-priced.
  • Creating many profiles and never testing mixed carts.
  • Forgetting to assign new products to the right profile.

What about local delivery within Dubai or Sharjah?

Shopify's help centre also covers local delivery zones, pickup and delivery rates for nearby customers. This can suit a store with its own driver or a bakery or restaurant delivering within a few areas.

Read the local delivery page in Shopify's help centre first, because the exact setup is separate from standard zones. Then test with real addresses from the areas you serve. Customers can enter addresses in many formats, so check that your area is recognised.

How do you connect a UAE courier to Shopify?

Most UAE couriers connect through an app. Check your admin's carrier list first, then look in the Shopify App Store for your courier. Aramex, for example, publishes its own Shopify app manual. Follow the courier's manual for account details and settings.

If you want live courier rates at checkout, Shopify's carrier-calculated shipping needs a plan that includes it and an account with a supported carrier, per its carrier accounts page. Advanced includes it. Grow gets it for an extra monthly fee or with annual billing. Check the current fee on Shopify. Apps can also supply calculated rates when your carrier integrates that way.

Before you connect, ask your courier:

  1. Do you have a Shopify app, and does it support live rates or only label creation?
  2. Which areas do you cover, and which cost extra?
  3. Do you collect COD, and how often do you remit it?
  4. What are the weight and size limits?
  5. How do I get tracking numbers back into Shopify?

How do you handle cash on delivery on Shopify?

Add COD as a manual payment method. Go to Settings > Payments > Manual payment methods, click Add manual payment method, then choose Cash on Delivery, as described in Shopify's developer documentation.

COD is manual, so the order shows as unpaid until someone marks it paid. That means your team must match each courier remittance to individual orders. With one courier this is manageable. With three couriers and hundreds of orders a week, it becomes a daily spreadsheet job.

A simple COD routine:

  1. Export orders delivered with COD each week.
  2. Compare them with each courier's remittance statement.
  3. Mark matched orders as paid in Shopify.
  4. Chase missing or short payments with the courier in writing.
  5. Keep a log of returned or refused COD orders.

If you use several couriers, a tool that puts them in one dashboard and reconciles COD saves time. Quickship's Last Mile Aggregator is software for that job: one dashboard for many couriers and COD reconciliation. Quickship does not deliver or collect cash. Your couriers do.

What should you check before going live?

Run a short test before you advertise. Place orders to different UAE addresses, with different carts, on a phone and a laptop.

  • The UAE market is active and the zone includes it.
  • Rates appear for a single item, a mixed cart and a bulky cart.
  • Free-shipping thresholds trigger at the right basket value.
  • COD appears as a payment option, if you offer it.
  • Courier labels and tracking numbers flow back to the order.
  • Your shipping and returns page matches what checkout shows.

If you sell on Amazon.ae or noon too, keep stock counts aligned across channels. Quickship's Inventory module syncs multi-warehouse stock with Amazon, noon and Shopify.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shopify have built-in UAE couriers?

The built-in carrier lists we found cover countries such as the US, Canada and the UK, and we did not find the UAE on them. UAE couriers usually connect through their own Shopify app, such as the Aramex app. Check the current list in your Shopify admin before you plan around it.

Which Shopify plan do I need for live courier rates at checkout?

You need a plan that includes carrier-calculated shipping and an account with a supported carrier. Shopify says Advanced includes it, and Grow can add it for an extra monthly fee or with annual billing. Fees change, so check the current price on Shopify.

How do I take cash on delivery on Shopify?

Go to Settings > Payments > Manual payment methods and add Cash on Delivery. It is a manual method, so the order shows as unpaid until someone marks it paid after the courier hands over the cash. Menu labels can differ slightly between stores.

Why is my customer's shipping cost higher than I expected?

A cart can hold products from different shipping profiles or locations. Shopify combines the rates from each profile into one amount at checkout, which can raise the total. Review your profiles if bulky items sit next to small ones.

Can I offer free shipping above a certain order value?

Yes. Shopify supports rates based on order amount. Add a rate with a minimum order value and set its price to zero, then test it in a real checkout.
